Experience the best motorcycling you’ve ever done while you spend eight glorious days riding around and over the majestic Southern Alps of New Zealand.
Ride those legendary mountain passes and all the not-to-miss routes, Burkes Pass, magical Milford Sound in the Fiordland National Park, the highest tar sealed road in New Zealand, and the wild West Coast road with it’s jurassic-style rainforests and towering glaciers.
We’ve allowed time in Invercargill, New Zealand’s Motorcycle Mecca and home of Burt Munro’s Fastest Indian, and Queenstown for riding to all those Lord of the Rings and Hobbit locations, doing all those action-packed activities, or relaxing with some wine-tasting and gourmet food tours

THE TOUR ITINERARY: AT A GLANCE…
DAY 1 : Arrival in to Christchurch
DAY 2 : Christchurch to Mount Cook (367km, 4-5hrs + breaks)
Enjoy the fabulous ride across the Plains and over the mountain pass to the glorious Southern Alps and Aoraki Mount Cook, the ‘Cloud Piercer’. Check out quaint country villages, the iconic Church of the Good Shepherd at beautiful Lake Tekapo, and the Sir Edmund Hillary Museum & Planetarium at Mount Cook Village. Overnight Lake Tekapo or Mount Cook Village
DAY 3 : Mount Cook to Dunedin (320km, 4-5hrs + breaks)
Happiness is riding the sweeps and bends of empty ribbon back-roads that wind around pristine lakes, high country sheep stations and fossil-filled limestone hills all the way to Dunedin and the Pacific Ocean. Check out hydro-dams, historic precincts, ancient boulders and even a steampunk museum along the way. At Dunedin there’s the Otago Peninsula with it’s abundant wildlife, breweries, and the world’s steepest street to explore. Overnight Dunedin
DAY 4 : Dunedin to Invercargill (277km, 4-5hrs + breaks)
This is riding at its very best as you skirt the white-sand beaches of the deserted Catlins district. No traffic and unspoilt scenery everywhere you look. Stop at quirky locations and CMTsecrets befitting this isolated area, including, tide permitting, an ancient fossilised forest – on the beach! Before settling in at Invercargill, ride to Bluff, New Zealand’s most southerly point, for that special photo. Invercargill, New Zealand’s motorcycle mecca, awaits! Overnight Invercargill
DAY 5 : Invercargill to Fiordland National Park (191km, 2-3hrs + breaks)
Before setting off today check out two fabulous motorcycle museums. The first houses the Indian motorcycle that won the land-speed world record at Utah’s Bonneville Salt Flats in 1967, ridden by Invercargill legend Burt Munro. The second is the Classic Motorcycle Mecca boasting the largest display of classic motorcycles in Australasia. Continue your journey skirting the south coast to Fiordland National Park and enjoy the vistas of ice-carved fiords, lakes, valleys and rugged snow-capped mountains. Overnight Te Anau
DAY 6 : Milford Magic (121kms. 2hrs each way + breaks)
Combine one of the world’s finest scenic highways with one of the world’s best motorcycling roads and you have the Milford Road. Golden grasslands and mirror lakes give way to rainforest, majestic waterfalls, raging rivers, and mile-high mountains. Emerge from a dark tunnel into another forgotten world and descend down deep into the valley, until in front of you stands the iconic Mitre Peak towering 1692 metres from the sea floor. DAY 7 : Fiordland to Queenstown (213km, 3-4hrs +breaks)
This glorious five star ride snakes its way between Lake Wakatipu and the world’s most photographed ‘Remarkables’ mountain range. You’ll soon find yourself in The Lord of the Rings country, where there’s time for bungy jumping, wine tasting, jet-boating and panning for gold, before arriving into the ‘Adventure Capital of the Southern Hemisphere’! DAY 8 : Queenstown to Franz Josef Glacier Village (351km, 5hrs + breaks)
Today you’ll be riding over the highest tar-sealed road in New Zealand through mountain passes and lush rainforest. You’ll experience beautiful lakes, rivers, and waterfalls on your way to the Tasman Sea, not to mention the legendary Haast Pass and Mt. Aspiring National Park. There’s time to visit the glaciers, visit live Kiwi, or soak away your aches in hot pools surrounded by the rain forest. Overnight Franz Josef Glacier Village.
DAY 9 : Franz Josef Glacier to Christchurch (381km, 5-6hrs +breaks)
Snake your way through Jurassic rainforest today, then alongside the dramatic and rugged coastline of the Tasman Sea, still so close to the mountains. Check out the amazing driftwood beaches and local arts and crafts of the South Island’s rugged West Coast. Enjoy the fabulous ride over Arthurs Pass with its twists and bends, and long sweeps down the tranquil farmlands of the Canterbury Plains.
